Police in Rukungiri is holding a 19-year-old Armed Robber, who was part of the gang of three armed robbers that raided an electronics shop and robbed Ugx 50m and mobile devices on Tuesday.
The suspect is Twinomugisha Dominic 19, a resident of Katete, Mbarara City. He was arrested after his accomplices took on their heels.
According to a statement by Rukungiri Police released last evening, three armed robbers raided FOR GOD ELECTRONINCS located along Rubabo Road in Rukungiri Municipality at around 8:00PM in the evening and made off with approximately 50 million shillings and an unspecified number of phones
Police says the thugs also shot and injured Dokuze Daniel, 29, an unarmed Saracen security guard at the premises. Dokuze was rushed to Nyakibaale hospital where he is currently nursing wounds.
One person was according to police reports killed in the scuffle. The deceased is Edward Tayebwa, 19, a resident of Bunura Cell, Rwakabengo Ward, Southern Division.
Police also recovered a gun suspected to have been used in the robbery as they pursued the robbers. The recovered gun serial number UGPOL 56582399632575 had 10 rounds of ammunition was recovered from Twinomujuni.
Police condemned the acts of robbery noting that investigations to track down the other suspects is ongoing.
