A returning officer in Kenya has gone missing while on duty, a statement from the IEBC confirms.
Wafula W Chebukati, the chairman of the Independent Election Commission and Boundaries – IEBC of Kenya says that the missing returning officer is for Embakasi county.
“We wish to inform the country that our returning officer for Embakasi East Constituency, Mr Daniel Musyoka has been reported missing while on duty at the East African School of Aviation Centre,” Chebukati said
According to A statement by IEBC, reports received by the commission indicate that around 9:00am on 11th of August (yesterday), the officer was escorted from his house to the tallying centre by his bodyguards, but around 9:45 am, he excused himself to make a telephone call but never returned to the office.
Chebutaki said the officer’s family and the commission have been trying to reach him without success.
His duties are now being handled by the deputy Returning Officer, according to the commission.
A report of a missing person has been made at Embakasi Police Station vide 24/11/8/2022.
The commission has called on security agencies in Kenya to speedily investigate the unfortunate incident.
Meanwhile, the commission is still verifying results before final declaration of the presidential election results waiting for official release any time from now.
