REGIONAL: MITOOMA

Proprietors of Private Schools in Mitooma district southwestern Uganda have appealed to government to extend support to private schools to enhance better education services.

The proprietors made the appeal at the function by the Mitooma District Local Government to handover the 2022 PLE results to school Headteachers held at the district headquarters on Tuesday 31st January, 2023.

According to the results, out of 15 best performing schools in the district, 11 are private schools which the proprietors say that when they are provided support, they can keep on excelling as well as promoting quality education in the district.

Jerome Twebaze, the Director, St. Jerome Primary School says that some district officials have deliberately neglected privately owned schools during mobilization and supervision activities which affects their operations.

“My humble appeal is that when you’re sharing the cake or mobilizing think about private schools, sometimes we invite you to our meetings but you don’t come to our rescue. Please! Come to us also because we provide a service and our children pass. Always support us so as we can keep on excelling,” he said

Located in Kashensero sub-county, Ruhinda county, St. Jerome is one of the schools that recorded good performance in last year’s PLE exams both in Mitooma District and western region.

Out of 20 pupils who sat for the 2022 PLE, eight (08) passed in Division One.

Parents and learners attributed the performance to conducive learning environment at the school and qualified teaching staff that enable learners to exploit their potentials and concentrate on their studies without interferences.

The function to handover PLE results was attended by the Mitooma RDC Francis Kibuuka B Amooti, C/m LCV Benon Karyeija, CAO, DEO, Headteachets and Directors of various schools among others.
