TheKabale deputy resident district commissioner, Ronald Bakak has today handed over five people who illegally obtained stalls and lockups in Kabale central market to police to make statements.
Bakak together with a team from the ministry of local government led by Ismail Ahmed, principal inspector during the physical verification exercise to verify how the stalls and lockups were distributed to traders.
The committee was instituted by the minister of local government this year in January while meeting a section of aggrieved traders at Kabale municipal council hall to sign a memorandum of understanding, national identity card and allocation slip of every trader in the market. Bakak said the exercise will be concluded tomorrow. The arrested include; Esau Orimwikiriza occupant of lockup A1 056, Merdard Bisamunyu lockup A1-065, John Mbonigaba chairman Abashubuzi Tukore group lock up A1-095, Robert Byansi and Dalton Naturinda both reportedly occupants of lock up A1-030.
According to Deputy RDC Bakak, the quitent were sent to police to make statements after it was discovered that they occupied the premises illegally, some had forged allocation slips and some never had memorandum of understanding.
The chairperson of Kabale central market lock up owners, Canon Jack Katarishangwa said that he is hopeful that the verification exercise will scrutinize illegal occupancy of lockups and give chance to those that never got their lock- ups back during the allocation exercise.
