Democratic Party has urged president Yoweri kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni to suspend his state minister for micro finance Hon. Kyeyune Haruna Kasolo over allegations of abuse if office.
A whistleblower’s report has pinned minister Kasolo of the mismanagement of 2 billion shillings that was meant for Emyooga funds and instead was channelled to his personal organization well known as Kasolo Foundation Ltd.
Addressing journalists at DP offices on Tuesday, Ismail Kiirya, the President for Uganda Young Democrats (UYD) said it is now the right time for president Museveni to crack whip and sack minister Kasolo if he is serious about zeroing corruption in Uganda.
“President museveni should this time deal with his minister because this is taxpayer’s money that is meant for poor ugandans to enhance themselves” Kiirya stated.
Corruption scandals are rampart among top Government officials like Prime Minister Robinah Nabajja, first deputy premiere Rebecca Kadaga, Vice president Maj. Gen. Jessica Alupo, finance minister Matia kassaijja, among others were recently implicated in the theft of Iron sheets meant for the vulnerable people in Karamoja, Teso and Luweero sub-region. The Office of the Director of Public Prosecution however, lost interest in the matter and closed files of the majority ministers.
Only three ministers including Amos Lugolobi, state minister for finance and planning, minister of Karamoja affairs in the OPM Maria Goretti Kitutu and er State minister Agness Nandutu were arrested, detained arraigned before the Anti-graft court, charged and later released on bond. The trio are still battling court cases.
With these cases not yielding any fruits, DP further urged the Inspector General of Government (IGG) to probe into this minister Kasolo matter by not only stopping at him but also investigating all the officials in the ministry, district accounting officials and the District Chief Administrative Officers (CAOs) because corruption has penetrated to up to district levels.
“Not only Hon kasolo should be interrogated but all the officials in his ministry and all the Government accounting officials at all levels” Kiirya urged.
He says cases of mismanagement of public funds have consecutively happened among top government officials but nothing much has been done to them which raises many unanswered questions on whether the law works on low profile people and excludes those in power.
