Police in Mitooma are probing a double murder involving two members of the same family.
The incident occured on August 25, 2024 in Nyandango B cell, Bwera Parish, Kanyabwanga Sub-county, Mitooma district.
It is alleged that on the fateful day at around 3:00am, the suspect, identified as 30-year-old Gerald Muhumuza attacked the family of Sylvia Asiimwe, and using a sharp object brutally stabbed two members of the house to death.
The Greater Bushenyi Police spokesperson SSP Martial Tumusiime identified the victims as Stephen Turyasingura, 30, security guard attached to Chita company and a resident of Kikunyu Kashensero and Fortune Amutuhaire, 11, a primary school pupil and daughter to Asiimwe.
Further reports indicate that the suspect and Turyasingura (victim) have been engaged in a sexual affair with Asiimwe which could have sparked the incident.
SSP Martial confirmed to this report noting that Asiimwe managed to escape the attack. However, her daughter and Turyasingura (alleged side man) did not survive the attack. Bodies were taken to Mitooma Health Center IV for postmortem examination.
Meanwhile, the police have launched an investigation into the incident, and efforts are underway to apprehend the suspect.
