Asiimwe Jackie, CEO of CivSource Africa, a philanthropy advisory firm, has challenged journalists to delve beyond conventional monetary donations and showcase the diverse forms of generosity that make a significant impact in local communities. Jackie emphasized the importance of highlighting time and talent contributions, such as developing children’s talents and creating opportunities for those in need during a two days training for journalists and community facilitators organized by NGO Forum at Royal suites Bugolobi on 26th September, 2024.
“Journalism has the power to shape the narrative around giving and its role in community development,” Jackie noted.
Edna Rebecca, a seasoned communication specialist, shared insights on crafting compelling stories of generosity, emphasizing the importance of presentation, imagery, and creativity.
Robert Ninyesiga, Senior Programme Associate at Uganda National NGO Forum, stressed the need for a legal framework to encourage local giving, reducing reliance on international funders to solve local problems. He urged media professionals and community facilitators to amplify their voices to drive change and contribute to community development.
This call to action aims to promote a culture of philanthropy in Africa, recognizing that generosity extends beyond financial donations. By sharing inspiring stories of local generosity, journalists can inspire others to make a positive impact.
