Former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) of Kenya Chairperson, Wafula Chebukati is dead, family confirmed .
Chebukati passed away on Thursday night while undergoing treatment at a Nairobi hospital.
Eric Nyongesa, the family spokesperson confirmed the loss and addressed concerns about the cause of death and the possibility of a post-mortem examination.
“The family is yet to meet with doctors, and no decision has been made on whether to undertake a post-mortem. We ask everyone to avoid speculation until we are ready to share more details,” Nyongesa said from Nairobi Lee Funeral Home.
He also requested privacy for the grieving family.

“We are asking everybody, including the press, the media, and those on social forums, to please allow the family some privacy,” he added.
As Kenya remembers the former IEBC chair, the nation awaits further details from the family regarding funeral arrangements.
The family has promised to issue an official statement once they have gathered all necessary information.
Chebukati served as IEBC Chair from 2017 to 2023, overseeing two general elections during a challenging period in Kenya’s political landscape.
On Friday, President William Ruto led the nation in mourning Chebukati, describing him as a principled and diligent leader who served the country with integrity.
