On 1 March , 2025 Police in Lwengo District conducted a successful search operation in Lweyebere and Mirembe villages where they recovered multiple stolen motorcycle number plates.
The operation was launched by police after receiving intelligence from an informant about suspected stolen number plates hidden in Jumba Rashid’s banana and coffee plantation.Rashid was already in custody for a related motorcycle robbery case.
The police officers conducted a thorough search in Lweyebere village, Lwengo rural sub-county, and discovered four motorcycle number plates: UFC 520W, UFH 779X, UFN 559V, and UFH 963F With the help of local community members.
According to the police statement,the operation extended to Mirembe village in Ndagwe Sub-County, where law enforcement teamed up with local council authorities and a search of Rashid’s residence led to the discovery of crucial evidence, including a motorcycle key, three broken number plate guards, a side mirror, three spanners, remains of a burnt motorcycle seat cover, and a hidden number plate UFC 057C.
The Police have confirmed that investigations are ongoing to establish whether Rashid was part of a larger motorcycle theft syndicate.This operation is a testament to how valuable intelligence from the public can be in ensuring justice.
With continued community cooperation,though investigations the successful operation marks a step forward in the fight against motorcycle theft in Lwengo.
