The Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) party has announced that it is in the final stages of updating its electoral roadmap in preparation for the 2025–2026 general elections.

According to party spokesperson Sharon Oyat Arach, the revised roadmap will guide all UPC activities leading up to the national polls, including grassroots mobilization, internal party elections, selection of flag bearers, and campaign strategies.

“The party is in its final processes of the update of its electoral roadmap in the preparation for the 2026 general elections,” said Arach.

Sharon Oyat Arach, UPC Spokesperson

Arach noted that the party is committed to ensuring a well-coordinated and transparent process that reflects UPC values and readiness to lead the country.

“We have invested so much in ensuring accountability, in ensuring that elections are free and fair to be able to demonstrate to the rest of the world the rest of the world,” she said.

“Because if internally you cannot have free and fair elections, then how sure are you that you can carry out an election outside your political party?”

The roadmap update comes as political parties across the country intensify preparations for what is expected to be a highly competitive election season. The UPC, one of Uganda’s oldest political parties, is looking to rejuvenate its support base and increase its presence in both parliament and local government.

Party President Hon. Jimmy Akena has already declared his presidential bid for the 2026/31 term.

The updated roadmap according to Arach will be officially unveiled as soon as the party’s Electoral Commission finalizes the update exercise and the roadmap is approved by the party’s top organs.

“It’s already being handled by the Party Electoral Commission, until the party EC informs us they are ready, then they will call cabinet, and then cabinet will sit and approve it. Until then, that is when we can release the roadmap.”

As the political climate heats up, the UPC has reiterated its call for peaceful engagement, inclusive participation, and respect for democratic principles.

Additionally, the party challenged Justice Simon Byabakama’s Electoral Commission to carryout thorough sensitization of voters about their electoral activities, especially on elections for Special Interest Groups.

“When it comes to the special interest groups as well as carrying out civic education on such activities as mandated.” Arach said.
