Two armed terrorists have been killed this morning in Munyonyo by a Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) counter-terrorism unit during a swift, intelligence-led operation.
According to Colonel Chris Magezi, the Acting Director of Defence Public Information, the operation was successful in neutralizing the threat posed by the suspects, who were intercepted in the upscale Kampala suburb.

“It was an intelligence led operation, and the security services are on heightened alert to ensure the Martyrs Day celebrations proceed without disruption”.Magezi stated.
The incident has occurred as Uganda commemorates Martyrs Day, a major national event drawing large crowds.
Earlier this morning, reports of suspected bomb explosion in Munyonyo near the Catholic Basilica broke the Internet involving two people, a Boda Boda rider and his female passenger – who died on the spot. However , the UPDF has since claimed responsibility of the incident, saying it was a counterterrorism attack.
The UPDF has called on the public to remain calm but vigilant. “The general public is urged to remain calm but vigilant and report to the security services any suspicious individuals, objects or activities for immediate attention”.Chris Magezi added.
By press time, the force was yet to release the identities of the victims.
