A 35-year-old man in Kanungu district, Kigezi region was over the weekend killed in a mob justice, over suspected motorcycle theft.
The incident occurred on Saturday (June 7), when the suspect was found with a suspected motorcycle without Number Plates. A group of Boda Boda riders intercepted him, and started beating him up until he became unconscious.
ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi region police spokesperson identified the suspect as Emmy Busingye,35, a resident of Rukarara village, Kihembe Parish, Kihembe sub-county, Kanungu district.
It is alleged that the deceased was part of a serial gang that has been terrorizing residents, breaking into their homes, robbing them of their properties and had numerous criminal cases registered at Kihihi Police Station.
ASP Maate said police was invited to the scene and found when Busingye had already breathed his last.
He condemned acts of mob justice and warned residents against taking the laws into their hands, noting that the culprits will be apprehended and charged in accordance with the laws of Uganda.
“Police is investigating this matter, and we will arrest those involved and bring them to book,” he said.
Body was taken to Kihihi HCIV for a postmortem, and no arrest has been made.
