Speaking during their mobilization tour in Lira City, Alebtong, and Otuke districts on Saturday, the FDC deputy president for Western Uganda, Robert Centenary, accused the area’s long-serving legislator and Government Chief Whip Hamson Obua of failing to use his influence to uplift his constituency.

“Obua has been a four-time MP, a member of the NRM Central Executive Committee, and the Government Chief Whip, yet his people in Ajuri continue to suffer. What has he done with all that power?” Centenary asked, urging voters to “choose leaders who care for them.”

Nandala Mafabi campaigning in Albetong, Lira City and Otuke district on Saturday, October 11, 2025.

The appeal followed remarks by the Albetong district FDC chairperson, Julius Peter Awany who raised concerns over the poor service delivery, increased school dropouts, corruption, and impassable roads as major challenges affecting residents.

“Our people are suffering because of poor governance and lack of accountability. The government has abandoned us,” Awany says.

In response, the FDC presidential candidate, Nathan Nandala Mafabi James told a mammoth of his supporters who had gathered to listen to him that the time had come for Ugandans to reject leaders who enrich themselves at the expense of citizens.

“Voters must decide whether they want their children to keep dropping out of school because of fees, or to pay for healthcare that government should provide,” Mafabi said. “The FDC government will ensure that public funds are used to deliver services that benefit every Ugandan, not stolen by a few.”

Furthermore, Nandala pledged that his administration would prioritize the plight of teachers by ensuring equal pay and fully free education for children of the teachers from primary to the university.

‎Addressing a campaign rally in Awei Sub-county, Alebtong District, Mafabi criticized the long-standing gap between science and arts teachers, calling it unjust and must be closed immediately.

According to Nandala, all teachers perform the same work and should not be paid differently because of subject specialisation or posting.

The FDC called on voters in the Lango sub-region to “sacrifice for the future of their children” by voting for change in the next year’s elections.

Today Saturday October 11, marked the second day for the FDC’s campaigns in Lango to rally grassroots support ahead of the 2026 general elections. Tomorrow Sunday (October 12), FDC trail will be in Lira and Kwania districts.
