MUKONO
Police in Namanve have arrested one suspect following a foiled armed robbery along the Jinja–Kampala highway in Kiwanga Zone, Goma Division, Mukono District, on Saturday night.
According to police, the operation followed crime reports which occurred at around 10:31 pm on October 25, 2025, when a group of suspected criminals ambushed travellers along the busy highway.
The gang, reportedly armed with pangas, is said to have been robbing and terrorising motorists and pedestrians, instilling fear among night travellers.
Upon receiving the report, Namanve Police officers swiftly responded and deployed to the scene. During the operation, officers discovered over ten suspects hiding along the roadside, believed to be preparing for further attacks.
“When the suspects saw the officers, they tried to flee, but police— with support from vigilant community members—pursued them,” a police source said.
One suspect, identified as Angolo Abdul, aged 22, was intercepted and disabled by police before being apprehended.
Abdul is currently detained at Namanve Police Station, as investigations continue. Police said his case file is being processed and will be forwarded to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) for legal guidance.
Police have since intensified patrols along the Jinja–Kampala highway, particularly in Kiwanga and nearby areas, to curb the growing cases of highway robberies.
Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and cooperate with security forces by reporting suspicious individuals and movements in their communities.
