Police in the Greater Bushenyi sub-region have confirmed the receipt and secure storage of ballot boxes and other electoral materials ahead of the January 15 polls.
SP Apollo Tayebwa, the Regional Police Public Relations Officer for Greater Bushenyi, said on Sunday that district police commanders, working in liaison with other security agencies and district authorities, witnessed the delivery of the materials.
According to him, Bushenyi District received 384 ballot boxes, Sheema 374, Buhweju 223, and Rubirizi 222. This was an additional of 316 ballot boxes and related polling materials which were delivered to Mitooma District on Friday last week.
Police say they have enhanced deployment to ensure the safe custody of the materials at the respective district Electoral Commission offices.
“The materials are securely stored at the district Electoral Commission premises, with police and other security agencies providing round-the-clock protection,” SP Tayebwa explained.
Moreover, police reminded the public to remain law-abiding and to observe all Electoral Commission regulations and police guidelines governing the electoral process, noting that security agencies remain committed to safeguarding the integrity of the elections and ensuring public safety across the sub-region.
