Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) presidential candidate Gen. Mugisha Muntu has said he will not challenge the outcome of the 2026 presidential election in court, citing lack of sufficient evidence and inadequate deployment of polling agents.
Speaking at the ANT party headquarters in Bukoto on Friday, Muntu said the party was unable to secure key electoral documents, particularly Declaration of Results (DR) forms, which are critical in mounting a successful legal challenge.
“The weakness we have as ANT is lack of evidence, especially the DR forms. We were not organised enough to have polling agents at every polling station,” Muntu said.
The Electoral Commission (EC) on Thursday declared incumbent President Yoweri Museveni winner of the election with 72% of the vote, defeating his closest challenger, National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, who garnered 25%. Kyagulanyi has since rejected the results, describing the process as fraudulent and alleging ballot stuffing and widespread irregularities.

Muntu acknowledged that the results declaration process lacked transparency but said ANT was constrained by the absence of verifiable evidence to back a court petition.
“Everyone saw that the declaration of results was not transparent, but as ANT, we do not have the evidence to challenge it,” he said.
He added that the party was ready to support any candidate or political actor who opts to challenge the results and possesses clear and credible evidence.
Instead of pursuing litigation, Muntu said ANT would focus on strengthening its party structures and improving mobilisation to ensure full representation at polling stations across the country in future elections.
He also urged other opposition politicians who failed in the polls to prioritise grassroots organisation and long-term capacity building.
“Instead of sitting back and watching, we must build structures and systems that will help change the political leadership of this country,” Muntu said.
