ISHAKA
Police in Greater Bushenyi have arrested two suspects in connection with alleged human trafficking.
The suspects are Agaba Innocent, 24, a resident of Nyakashaaru Cell in Rubirizi District, and Nayebare Getrude, 24, a resident of Mpoma II Cell, Kajuzya Parish, Nkungu Sub-county in Kazo District.
The duo allegedly lured victims, most of them Senior Four leavers, with fake job offers in Ishaka Town.
SP Apollo Tayebwa, the spokesperson for greater Bushenyi police region said ten young women have been rescued at “Nature’s Way”, an establishment in Ishaka Town where they were promised employment.
“The victims were reportedly confined, closely monitored, and forced to recruit other young women while soliciting money from their relatives,” Tayebwa said.
Police said ten victims have so far been rescued and investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend other suspects linked to the case.
Authorities have cautioned the public, especially youths, parents and guardians, to verify job offers before taking them up and to promptly report suspicious recruitment activities to the nearest police station or local authorities.
