KIBOGA
The Uganda Prisons Service has confirmed the tragic death of three Uganda prison officers following a shooting incident at Kiboga Prison on the morning of 22nd February 2026.
According to a statement issued by Frank Baine Mayanja, Senior Commissioner of Prisons and Service Spokesperson, the incident occurred at around 10:00 AM when No. 13544 Warder Anguyo Moses opened fire on his supervisors.
The deceased have been identified as: Assistant Superintendent of Prisons Hope Catherine, Deputy Officer in Charge, Principal Officer I Akishuri Bright, 3rd in Command, Ms. Ayebare Sarah, spouse of the Officer in Charge.
After the shooting, the suspect fled the facility. Security agencies immediately secured the scene, recovered the firearm used, and launched a joint manhunt for the fugitive, who is considered dangerous.
Authorities have appealed to the public for any information that could aid in locating the suspect. The Prisons Service expressed deep regret over the incident and assured that updates will be provided as investigations and operations progress.
