Government has ordered the immediate closure of Maranatha High School and it’s Primary section and lower units at Ggaba Early Childhood Development Program School in Makindye following Holy Thursday’s tragic incident that led to the death of 4 children.
In a directive issued by Minister of State for Higher education JC Muyingo, parents and guardians have been instructed to urgently pick their children from the school, including those in the nursery, primary, and high school sections.
The Day Care Management has also been directed to compile and submit a comprehensive report detailing the events that culminated in the deaths, as they record statements with the police to aid ongoing investigations.
The centre has since been closed with immediate effect until further notice as authorities work to establish the exact cause of the incident.
On Holy Thursday, Christopher Okello disguised as a new parent at the school, and entered one of the classroom, and killed four pupils instantly. The suspect (Okello) was intercepted and arrested, but the motive of his actions remains unknown.
Muyingo has acknowledged the fear and shock among learners, teachers, and staff, assuring them that they are not alone during this difficult time.
“Immediate psychological support and counseling services are being arranged to help the school community cope with the trauma,” Muyingo said
He emphasized that the safety and well-being of every child remains a top priority, calling on the public to remain calm and united while supporting affected families.
He has also pledged full support to the bereaved families as they navigate this painful period.
However, the school Management says that they have put in place all safety measures that can keep children safe and are open to give all information to the on going investigation
