KAMPALA:
Police has broken silence about the deteriorating health of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Martin Okoth Ochola, after spending couple of weeks from the public appearences.
According to the director of Medical Services at the Uganda Police Force (UPF) Dr. Moses Byaruhanga, the IGP is ill and is battling High Blood Pressure.
Gen Otafire then asked the Police Doctor Byaruhanga who confirmed to the meeting that the IGP is sick.
IGP Ochola was expected to appear before the committee together with NIRA and Uganda Prisons Services officials to respond to matters concerning the security situation of the country.
But Dr Moses Byaruhanga says the IGP condition gets worse when he is faced with stressful situations which doctors have advised he should avoid. He said its the reason he did not come to appear before the committee of Parliament.
IGP Ochola has for a long time not appeared in the public. It is recalled that he did not attend the burial of his deputy Gen Paul Lokech who passed on last month.
CP Fred Enanga, the police spokesperson however noted in a release that the IGP is not hospitalized as earlier alleged by media reports.
CP Enanga admitted that the IGP suffered from hypertension after learning about the death of his Deputy Lt. Gen. Lokech and was quickly attended to by the police doctors and his personal doctors.
