The St. Joseph’s Vocational Secondary School alumni football tournament, also known as the JOVOC Old Students League came to a thrilling end with Abakawuu emerging victors.
The team, comprising of students from the class of 1999-2004, were unbeaten throughout the season and were fittingly crowned champions, lifting the coveted Volinger trophy.
The final game was a high-stakes encounter between Abakawuu and Entumwa who put up a strong fight throughout the match. However, Abakawuu’s exceptional teamwork, skill, and determination earned them the top spot with a total of 48 points, while Abaleni finished as the runners-up with 44 points.
After the game, Mr. Fred, the JOVOC Old Students League chairman, thanked all the participating teams for their sportsmanship and contributions towards the success of the tournament. He encouraged students to follow in the footsteps of their old-school heroes and strive to become exemplary citizens in the future.
The tournament was organised by the school’s alumni as a way of giving back to the school that nurtured them.
Rev. Fr. Dr. Gowin Muhangi, the school’s head teacher, expressed his appreciation to the old students for remembering their alma mater and for bringing the final games to the school’s grounds. He commended their efforts in setting a good example for the current students and inspired them to work hard and achieve their goals.
At the same function the old students select team defeated the school football team with 2:0 in a match that closed the season.
The JOVOC Old Students League is an excellent platform for alumni to reconnect and engage with their alma mater, while also promoting healthy competition and sportsmanship among former students. Congratulations to Abakawuu for their outstanding performance.
