The National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) has announced new fees for various services related to the national ID, effective June 12, 2024.
According to the new fee structure, the replacement of a lost, defaced, or damaged national ID will cost Shs 50,000. Change of particulars (COP) for individuals below 16 years will be free, while those above 16 years will be charged Shs 200,000.
Error corrections made by NIRA will attract no charges, while errors made by clients will be charged depending on the nature of the correction. Adding a name on a birth certificate or removing a name will cost Shs 10,000 for children below 6 months and Shs 20,000 for those between 7 months and 18 years.
Death certificates will also attract new fees, with certification for deaths declared after one year costing Shs 20,000 for Ugandans and $40 for foreigners.
NIRA has emphasized that all payments must be made through banks or pay-way points, and a receipt will be issued. Additional bank charges may apply depending on the payment institution.
The new fees aim to improve the efficiency and sustainability of NIRA’s services, enhancing the overall national ID management system.
