President Museveni has appointed Edward Akol as the new Auditor General, replacing John Muwanga. Mr. Akol, who is yet to be vetted by parliament, has been serving as Assistant Auditor General – Audit in the Office of the Auditor General.
He joined the Office of the Auditor General in August 1994 as an Auditor and was subsequently promoted to Senior Auditor in July 1999. He was further promoted to Senior Principal Auditor in May 2004.
Mr. Akol has extensive experience in auditing donor-funded government projects. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Accounting from Makerere University, a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) qualification from the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya, and a Master of Business Administration degree from Heriot-Watt University’s Edinburgh Business School.
In addition, Mr. Akol has received certificates in Training of Trainers, Foreign Aid Accounting and Auditing, Instructional Techniques, IT Auditing, African Development Bank Project Implementation, and Forensic Investigations and Money Laundering.
