A fuel tanker overturned and caught fire at Kyanamira Trading Center along the Kabale-Mbarara highway, leading to a deadly inferno that claimed one life.
Eyewitnesses report that the tanker, reportedly traveling from Mbarara towards Kabale, burst into flames after overturning. The turn boy tragically perished in the fire, while the driver managed to escape from the vehicle and was rushed to Kabale Hospital.
“The driver was evacuated to Kabale Hospital in critical condition, while his turn boy is believed to have been trapped inside the burning tanker,” said Wilson Mucunguzi, Kabale’s Officer in Charge of Traffic Police. Mucunguzi.
He added that the tanker was likely headed toward Kigali, Rwanda, or the Democratic Republic of Congo. Fortunately, no injuries were reported among residents of the trading center, as the accident scene was swiftly secured by authorities.
This incident comes barely one week after a similar tragedy happened in Kigoogwa, Kampala, which claiming 16 lives.
