The leaders of Uganda’s virgin political party Alliance for National Transformation- Uganda (ANT) led by Gen Gregory MUGISHA Muntu have today paid a courtesy visit to the Speaker of Parliament Rt Hon Rabecca A Kadaga to discuss party’s plans to join the Interparty Organization for Dialogue (IPOD).
According to Speaker Kadaga, the discussion with ANT tackled several other issues like Recognizing MPs who have defected from different political parties to ANT.
Speaker Kadaga stressed that the new Ugandan laws allows Members of the Parliament to cross to other political parties if their choice with a period of 6months of the Parliament’s tenure.
“I will consult widely especially on the issue of MPs that have since crossed from one party to another,” Kadaga pledge.
Apparently, a section of legislators from NRM, FDC, DP and others independent have publicly announced their membership with Muntu’s ANT party which requires Parliament to update their register with new party subscriptions. These include; Jinja East MP Hon Paul Mwiru (FDC), Gerald Karuhanga (Ntungamo Municipality – Ind), Kasiano Wadri (ARUA Municipality – Ind), among others.
Kadaga further said she will engage the parliamentary Legal Department, Uganda Law Society among other stakeholders in a discussion on whether Parliament can immediately change the register and recognize the said MPs.
The ANT leadership was represented by Gen MUGISHA Muntu, the party head, Ms Alice Also, party Secretary General and MP Paul Mwiru.
