As new corruption reports continue to expose rot in public and private sectors in Uganda and Anti-graft movements, economic analysts and opposition politicians are accusing of failing to clearly give its cut-off position on fighting corruption and many times using cosmetic measures to deal with the corrupt.
Francis Adepo, the Chairperson of the FDC youth League says there is a new trend of corruption scandals spreading in all boardrooms of government institutions, MDAs and the private sector.
To express citizenry disatisfaction on rampant corruption, Adepo urged Muslims across the country to avoid wearing clothes as they celebrate Eid al Adha today, June 16.
Yellow colour is politically associated to the National Resistance Movement (NRM), a ruling party in Uganda since 1986. The NRM is widely accused of breastfeeding the gross corruption in Uganda and protecting its corrupt officials for all the years.
In his Eid al Adha message, Adepo said that yellow attires have been branded as for corrupt, and most dishonest people in Uganda.
“I therefore advise my brother’s and sisters in the Moslem fraternity not to put on anything related to yellow for they will be misunderstood the same by the public,” he urged.
He noted that the call is due to the trending corruption scandals that are spreading almost in all board rooms and organs of government including parliament and executive.
“I wish to call upon the general public to distance themselves from whoever comes closer to them in a yellow attire,” Adepo emphasized.
For a donkey’s years, the Ugandan government has been aware of the extent to which corruption has stained its reputation. In many cases, politicians have attempted to shift the blame as a way of solving the problem while others have brushed the allegations. A few officials who are arrested over alleged corruption are easily bailed out of the prisons without any drastic actions taken against them while others have been appointed to public offices.
Citizenry demands to overhaul the system as a mean to crash corruption in Uganda also continue to soar up but the government is not doing anything to stop the vice.
