Kitabi Seminary was filled with people gathered for a memorial spiritual ceremony and fundraising launch yesterday. The event honored 23 deceased seminarians who perished in a 1993 accident who were coming from a football tournament and also the event aimed to raise funds for the platinum hall construction project.
Local Government Minister Hon. Magyezi Raphael, a Kitabi Seminary old boy, urged attendees to be confident in society and give back to their alma mater. He attributed his success to the formation he received at the seminary and supported the launch with a 15 million shilling donation.
The event also saw the official opening of new student shower rooms, which Hon. Magyezi inaugurated. The platinum hall project, launched in 2010, aims to construct a modern hall to accommodate the growing student population. The project has been ongoing, but inflation has increased the budget to 1.2 billion shillings.
Other prominent figures, including Ubald Bamunoba and Dr. Silver Mugisha, also contributed to the cause. KISOBA president Mr. Didas Orikiriza and other KISOBA members present contributed towards 3.3 million towards the project by buying a cow at the function which they later gifted to the Archbishop His Grace Lambert Beinomugisha and also pledged 100 million shillings from KISOBA and its association projects.
Orikiriza thanked Dr. Silver Mugisha for previously supporting the KISOBA agricultural project with a water reservoir tank.
The Kitabi Seminary rector, Rev. Fr. Suzario Mwesime, expressed gratitude to the old boys and their associates for supporting the appeal to modernize the school. He urged them to continue supporting the project to its completion.
The event emphasized the importance of giving back to one’s alma mater and being confident in society. Hon. Magyezi’s famous “TOGIKWATAKO” assertion was seen as a testament to the formation and education he received at the seminary.
