Okello George Rwember has been officially nominated as the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) flag bearer for the Amolatar District Local Council V (LCV) chairperson seat ahead of the 2026 general elections.
Speaking to journalists at the UPC headquarters at Uganda House in Kampala on Wednesday, Okello pledged to work with all stakeholders, including the central government, to improve service delivery in Amolatar.
“I will work with other stakeholders, including the government, to take our country to greater heights,” he said.
Okello appealed to voters for support, saying the campaign is not a personal quest but a collective effort for the development of Amolatar and Uganda at large.
“This isn’t my struggle alone. It’s not my battle, but one driven by love for our country, and I dedicate myself to this cause,” he added.
Okello’s decision to contest for the LCV seat follows a consensus between him and the party leadership to step down from the Kioga North County parliamentary race in favour of another UPC candidate.
Meanwhile, UPC Electoral Commission chairperson Hajji Kazimbiraine Mahmoud told Parrots Media that over 200 individuals have returned nomination forms for parliamentary positions. He added that more than 102 candidates have so far been nominated to contest for LCV seats, with the party targeting to field over 1,000 candidates at the lower local government level.
Nominations for parliamentary and local government positions at UPC started on July 10 and will end on Friday, July 18.
