The Bishop for Mukono CoU Diocese, Rt. Rev. Enoth Kitto Kagodo has suspended promenade dances and parties in all church of Uganda founded schools in the diocese.
Bishop Kagodo said the parties are promoting coupling and drug abuse in schools which affects learner’s behavior.
“I have taken time to study prom parties in schools, I wonder where the practice originated from and it’s purpose. These parties are promoting coupling and indiscipline amongst students. Some students end up failing in their academic career. Even, some single sex schools are going to opposite sex partners, for what?” the Bishop wondered.
The warning follow images and videos of a male and female students of Elite High School Entebbe in Wakiso district who used a helicopter to reach the prom venue over the weekend.
Many students arrived in posh cars which the ministry of education and sports has since condemned. Kagodo says the practice has led to teenage pregnancy increase in schools.
“This is horrible, what message are they sending to our children.” he argued.
