Bishop Stuart University (BSU) has officially welcomed its 4th Vice-Chancellor, Prof. John Mugisha, during a handover ceremony at the Main Campus in Kakoba, Mbarara City. The event took place on July 1, 2024, and was graced by the University Chancellor, Rt. Rev. Assoc. Prof. Fred Sheldon Mwesigwa, and witnessed by the University Council and Management.
Outgoing Ag. Vice-Chancellor, Assoc. Prof. Gershom Atukunda (PhD), handed over the mantle to Prof. Mugisha, marking the beginning of a new chapter for the university. Assoc. Prof. Atukunda had served in an acting capacity for 17 months, and the university expressed its heartfelt gratitude for his dedicated service.
The Chancellor commended the outgoing Ag. Vice-Chancellor for his contributions and welcomed Prof. Mugisha with words of encouragement, emphasizing the importance of visionary leadership. Prof. Mugisha expressed gratitude for the trust invested in him and articulated a compelling vision for BSU, dubbed the “REEE strategy,” aiming to nurture students into Responsible, Entrepreneurial, Ethical, and Employable citizens.
The new Vice-Chancellor appealed to staff to work collaboratively towards this strategic aspiration, fostering a supportive, creative, and winning team. Prof. Mugisha’s term began on July 1, 2024, and the university community extends its best wishes to him.
