Mother marries own son in Malawi

By: Leonard Kamugisha AKIDA

“Sex between people in consanguinity is a grave offence in the African set up and is ardently condemned. In late ages, the culprits would be killed for committing such blasphemous acts.”

Profane as Malawian Mum marries own son over tuition fee.

Locals in Malawi are stunned after a 47 Year old mother has married her biological son aged 30 for what she claims as she over spend alot of money on his education.

Memory Njemani says another woman can not come in to be married to her son after her hard work in educating the son. She’s swears to eat on the fruits of her sweat.

“I invested alot of money in the education of my son. Why should another woman be married to him and enjoy my hard work I invested in him? That will not happen. I’m marrying my son so that we don’t empower other women who have been aborting ” she lamented.

This is not the first time an African mother marries own son on claims of paying for his education and other necessities. The vice is seemingly spreading all over the Blackman’s continent with single parents marrying their own.

In 2018 alone, Southern Rhodesia (Zimbabwe) was shocked with the news of a one Betty Mberegu who married her own son on similar claims.

Betty Mbereko, then 41yrs old Mum publicly announced her marriage with Farai Mbereko, 23yrs old (by then) whom she said was carrying his Six months pregnancy.

Like Njemani, Mbereko said she strove harder to have her son attain education and so was ready to fall in for him on expense of her dead husband young brothers who had started wooing the widow.

“Look, I strove alone to send my son to school and no one helped me. Now you see that my son is working and you accuse me of doing something wrong. Let me enjoy the products of my sweat,” she told the village court council.

Sex between people in consanguinity is a grave offence in the African set up and is ardently condemned. In late ages, the culprits would be killed for committing such blasphemous acts. However, with the new laws and government policies, the new cultural is evolving which leaves parents marrying own children.
