As schools continue to grapple with strikes and fights between students, two more schools have been reportedly temporarily closed over similar reasons
Students of Blessed Sacramento Secondary school Kimanya in Masaka have earlier this day been indefinitely suspended following attempts to put the school on fire.
According to reports, the students turned unruly staged a strike inwhich they wanted to burn some school properties under unclear reasons.
Police was called in for interventions and the students were easily overpowered. This prompted the school management to suspend all the learners to a yet to specify period as investigations into the cause of the strike are ongoing.
In related news, 430 male students at St. Mary’s College Rushoroza in Kabale district Southwest Uganda have also been sent home following inter-classes fight between S.4, S.5 and S.6 students.
Sources at the school indicate that the fight erupted on Friday evening at around 10PM when Senior Four candidates stormed a hall inwhich other classes were watching a Television and started fighting them. The source further alleged that candidates in Senior Six also forced other learners in lower classes from the hall arguing that they did not want to watch with the young learners.
Enock Hatangimana, Police Community Liaisons Officer in charge of the Kigezi region intimidated to Parrots UG that S.5 students accused their fellows in S.6 of extortion for instance; the studets leaders in S.6 have allegedly been demanding over 60,000 shillings and 20,000 shillings to hand-over power to the new leaders and getting them beds in dormitories, respectively.
On Saturday, the Headteacher, Remegio Byamukama, management and security agreed to indefinitely suspend all male students in the rivalry classes to avoid possible uncertainties.
“We have sent them home for unspecified period so as they may heal meanwhile as we look for a mechanism on how to recall them,” Byamukama said
Anti-riot military police is still heavily deployed at either schools to provide security to the school properties from angry students who may return to damage them.
