MUKONO
Court in Mukono has remanded to Luzira Prison a boyfriend over the alleged murder of a final-year law student at Uganda Christian University (UCU).
John Bosco Mayanja, 25, on Monday appeared before Magistrate Joy Kebirungi at the Mukono Chief Magistrate’s Court, where he was charged in connection with the death of 22-year-old Bridget Arikiriza.
It is alleged that the suspect was last seen with the deceased at Hive Bar, the previous night. The duo reportedly had a disagreement likely to have developed into this stressful act.
Further reports allege that Mayanja with the help of accomplices, forced the victim into his vehicle, Toyota Mark X, UBP 381Q and rushed her to Mukono Church of Uganda Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The court did not allow the suspect to enter a plea as the offence is capital in nature and can only be tried by the High Court.
Preliminary reports indicated that the deceased had been involved in a road accident. However, inconsistencies in the suspect’s account raised suspicion among investigators.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Recheal Kawala said subsequent investigations revealed that the victim had sustained injuries prior to being taken to hospital, pointing to possible foul play.
Mayanja was remanded until June 4, 2026, meanwhile as investigations into the matter continue.
