Police in Bushenyi District have launched investigations into the suspected suicide of a 40-year-old woman, Ninsiima Olivia, who was found dead on the night of July 23, 2025.
According to police, the body of Ninsiima, a resident of Buhuma II in Buramba Ward, Ishaka Division, was discovered hanging from a coffee tree in her banana plantation near her home at around 10:00 pm.
Officers from Greater Bushenyi Police region responded to the scene after receiving a report and found her body tied with a new rope. They followed standard procedures to handle the scene before taking the body to Kampala International University (KIU) Teaching Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem examination.
Preliminary investigations show that Ninsiima had earlier sent a text message to her son, Tusiime Mukama, saying she was tired of life and was going to end it. She later called him and asked whether he had seen the message. During the call, she reportedly told him that he would find her hanging on a coffee tree near their home.
Mukama, who lives and works in Ishaka town, rushed home only to find his mother already dead.
Ninsiima had been living with her mother, who had traveled to the village at the time of the incident. Family members and neighbors told police that she had been struggling with illness for some time.
The police spokesperson for Greater Bushenyi, SP Tayebwa Apollo, said investigations are ongoing to find out all the facts behind the incident.
He urged the public to seek help when faced with emotional or mental stress.
“We encourage people to talk to professional counselors or support services instead of choosing suicide, which is both unlawful and a loss to loved ones,” he said.
