KAMPALA
Court in Kampala has on Tuesday sent to remand until July 25, Andrew Mark Asiimwe, a businessman from Kasese on charges of impersonation and electronic fraud.
Asiimwe is accused of impersonating events promoter, Balaam Barugahara Atenyi on social media to fraudulently solicit money from unsuspecting followers.
He was discovered after he dubbed a one John Twinomugisha of Shs 50m for a non existing MK Girl Child Project to support vulnerable girls.
Prosecution states that this was done between January and July 2023 in Kampala and Kasese districts. Appearing before the magistrate, Asiimwe pleaded guilty to both charges.

The prosecution side further alleges Asiimwe has been soliciting money from different people promising to process for them travel VISAs and securing for them jobs abroad.
In May last year, Asiimwe was arrested by the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) for masquerading and running a fake Facebook account in the names of the Operation Wealth Creation -OWC Coordinator Gen. Salim Saleh.
The Army Spokesperson Brig. Gen. Felix Kulayigye told the media that the suspect opened the alleged Facebook account with the aim of extorting money from people under the pretext of proving them financial support, and had collected four million shillngs from his victims at by the time of his arrest.
