The Uganda Land Commission (ULC) has given cards to their chsirman Beatrice Byenkya Nyakaisiki and the commission’s secretary Barbrah Imaryo over alleged bribery and mismanagement of funds at the commission.
In a sacking notice dated December 31, 2021, seen by PARROTS UG, ULC launched reinvestigation into abuse of office by the top leadership.

“Uganda Land Commission wishes to inform all our esteemed customers, suppliers, partners and the general public that following the investigations that are ongoing at the commission, there has been a temporary change in its top leadership,” read excerpts of the notice.
The commission further appointed Prof. Nyeko Pen Mogi as Acting Chairperson, replacing Byenkya while Imaryo Barbara who has been serving as the commission Secretary has been replaced by Nyumba Henry as the Acting Secretary.
These changes according to ULC took effect in December 2021.
Parrots UG has learned that all inquiries, consultations and all land matters at the commission are currently being handled by the new leadership.
BACKGROUND
It should be recalled that Lands minister Judith Nabakooba had suspended ULC management and assumed duties of the commission citing abuse of office by the commission top leadership headed by Byenkya.
On October 12, Nabakooba wrote to the Inspector General of Government (IGG) Betty Kamya, requesting her to carry out an investigation into alleged reports of abuse and misuse of ULC resources by the leaders.

In November, IGG Kamya working on the orders of the minister interdicted Byenkya from her position as Chairperson of the commission.
A month later, Kamya also ordered for interdiction of Barbarah Imaryo from her duties as Secretary of Uganda Land Commission with immediate effect.
She said there was sufficient evidence to blame Byenkya and Imaryo for the allegations. She suggested that the duo step aside to pave way for fair investigation without interference.
