The cabinet has passed a mandatory order to all government officials, civil servants and ministers to use Uganda Airlines whenever travelling.
The resolution was passed during a Cabinet meeting on Monday 26th September,2023.
“All government officials in ministries , Departments and Agencies are directed to fly with Uganda Airlines to all the destinations it would be flying,” cabinet ordered.
Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, minister of Information and National Guidance said the directive affects only public officials and civil servants whose flights are facilitated by the government and going to destinations where the airline has its routes
“Cabinet took note that government officials must travel with the Uganda Airlines where they fly unless if your destination does not have Uganda Airlines as one of the routes which is being flied by the Airlines,” he said.
He was quick to caution accounting officers in government ministries, agencies, departments and parastatals against non-compliance with the cabinet directive.
“We want to caution accounting officers in government ministries, agencies and departments that they should comply with this directive of cabinet,” he said.
Re-established in 2018 but started operations in 2019 with two Bombadier planes, Uganda Airlines has so far grown to have 6 aircrafts that fly to about 20 destinations such as Nairobi (Kenya), Kilimanjaro, Dar-el-Salaam, Zanzibar, (Tanzania), Johannesburg (South Africa), Abuja (Nigeria), Mogadishu (Somalia) among others. The airline also serves international destinations including Dubai, London, Mumbai and Guangzhou.
