Atleadt five people from same family drowned in Lake Bunyonyi on Wednesday evening after a canoe they were travelling in capsized.
Police said the accident happened at around 6pm as the group travelled from Ndekura landing site in Rubanda district to Karamba village.
Police identified the dead as: Glorious Ayebazibwe 20, her two sisters; Pretty Kyogabirwe 9, and Ronah Ninsiima 8 and Ayebazibwe’s two daughters; Shanitah 6, and another estimated at seven-months-old.
According to police reports, the csnoe sailor identified as Dalton Niwampa, 22, resident of Karambo village survived narrowly swimming to yet unknown location.
The capsize is according to police due to excess loading and too much wind on the shores something that must have caused it to drown.
They stated that the canoe’s capacity is three people but instead it had six people on board.
By publication time, the bodies of the deceased were yet to be retrieved from the water.

This is not the first timeamany people have lost lives to this lake while others were retrieved.
At the beginning of this moth, two infant children collapsed in silar chages while others go for five.
Almost every August, Lake Bunyonyi consumes lives of the Uganda.
On Aug 2016 and August 2018, five members of the same family drowned in the same lake first incidence.
