Obituary

Agony at Entebbe International Airport as Speaker of Parliament Anita Among and Ogwal’s family members received the body of the late Dokolo Woman MP, Hon Cecilia Ogwal.

Hon Ogwal, aged 77, passed away on Wednesday while undergoing medical treatment in India. Following her demise, President Yoweri Museveni has granted her an official state burial, and a special Parliament sitting has been scheduled for Monday, January 22, 2024, to honor her contributions to to her country Uganda.

Speaker Among was accompanied by Government Chief Whip Hon Hamson Obua, Health Minister Hon Dr Jane Ruth Aceng, and Sports Minister Hon Peter Ogwang. Other notable figures, such were the Parliamentary Commissioners Hon Solomon Silwany and Hon Esther Afoyocan who were also in attendance.

Currently, Hon Ogwal’s body has been transported to Mulago Hospital for a post-mortem examination and embalming process. Later in the evening, a vigil will take place at her residence in Bugolobi.

The passing of Hon Cecilia Ogwal has undoubtedly left a significant void in Ugandan politics, as she was known for her dedication and service to the public. Her contributions and achievements will be remembered and honored during the Parliament’s special sitting. May she rest in peace.
