The death toll at Salama School for the Blind has hit 14 as a result of the fire that gutted a dormitory last night.

“The Police at Mukono are investigating a fire outbreak that took place today at about 1am at SALAMA School for the Blind in Luga Village , Ntanzi parish , Ntejeru Kisoga town council in Mukono district )”. Luke Owoyesigyire Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy PRO

According to Owoyesigyire, the cause of the fire is currently unknown but they have so far recorded 11 deaths as a result of the fire while 6 are in critical conditions and admitted at Herona Hospital in Kisoga .

However, by the time of compiling this report, the death toll had risen to 14 pupils.

Reports indicate that the burnt dormitory was accommodating 27 pupils of primary one, two and three.

The speaker of parliament Rt. Hon  Annet Among has defined the incident as the heartbreaking and demanded for proper investigations into the cause of the fire.
