The Democratic Party (DP) spokesperson, Ismaily Kirya, has urged the Inspector General of Government (IGG) to investigate corrupt officials at the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) who allowed illegal settlements in Lubigi wetlands. Kirya accused NEMA officials of accepting bribes and turning a blind eye to the illegal construction for 40 years, only to now demolish the structures.
Kirya condemned the double standards and demanded prosecution for the responsible officials. He also criticized the re-arrest of Busiki County MP Paul Akamba, who was released on bail, calling it an “abuse of power” and “political persecution.” Kirya urged the police to finalize investigations before making arrests and respect the rule of law and citizens’ rights.
The DP spokesperson vowed to continue speaking out against abuses of power and human rights violations. The party demands accountability and transparency in government institutions.
