DP has asked government to make a comprehensive policy on parish development model (PDM) funds.
According to the DP presidential secretary Fred Mwesigwa, the Parish Development Model is not a bad project but lacks implementation because the government doesn’t have a proper allocation for the funds.
He asked the government to change the mindset of Ugandans about the programme funds noting that many people do not know how to use this money to get out of poverty.
Mwesigwa further asked MPs to tell the truth on what they found out from the public on issues regarding PDM funds in their constituency
In September, the speaker of parliament Rt. Hon. Anitah Annette Among sent parliament into a one month recess and asked MPs to use the last two weeks for oversight of the Parish Development Model by sensitising constituents on the importance of different development programs that government has put in place to improve their livelihoods.
“In some areas the money will not help the people because of corruption and it’s being stolen by RDCs and Chief Administrative Officers,“ he added
The Parish Development Model, launched this year, is aimed at organising and delivering public and private sector interventions for wealth creation and employment generation using the parish as the lowest economic planning unit.
Meanwhile, the Democratic Party condemned the police for taking bribes from boda boda riders after impounding their motorcycles during the enforcement of presidential directives on ebola in Kassanda and Mubende districts. The party says that this practice is harmful to humans as it eases the spread ebola virus infections.
The presidential press secretary of the DP Mwesigwa also called upon the police to give a comprehensive report on increasing school fires and thugs who attack and kill police men and take guns from them.
This follows two double tragic incidents inwhich a blind school was burnt in Mukono district leaving 11 pupils dead and the recent raid of Busiika police post in Luweero where unknown thugs attacked a police post, killed two police officers and stole their guns.
