The Democratic Party (DP) has issued a warning to the public about individuals falsely presenting themselves as members of the DP Block and endorsing a presidential candidate ahead of the upcoming general elections.
Last week, a group of DP bloc members led by former Makindye East MP Michael Mabikke and People Power co-founder and activist Samuel Walter Lubega Mukaaku, endorsed the Nyendo-Mukungwe MP and Commissioner of parliament Mathias Mpuuga Nsamba, for presidency in the 2026 elections.
Ismail Kiirya, UYD President and Acting Party Spokesperson, clarified in a statement that the DP Block was initially established to mobilize former Democratic Party members through the UYD Re-Union caravan. However, he emphasized that the Democratic Party remains the principal body behind this initiative, as outlined in the Memorandum of Understanding (M.O.U.).
“When the National Unity Platform (NUP) was formed, certain members decided to leave DP and join NUP, but some of these individuals have since sought to use the DP Block platform for their own selfish interests,” said Kiirya.
The Democratic Party has legally challenged the legitimacy of DP Block in court, and the court subsequently dissolved the entity.
“We call upon the general public not to entertain or believe in individuals who still claim to represent DP Block. These individuals are pushing their own personal agendas, which have no affiliation with the Democratic Party,” the statement read.
Kiirya also stressed that the Democratic Party’s presidential candidate will be elected in accordance with the party’s constitution, during a Delegate’s Conference expected to take place before the end of the year.
“Any activities or events purportedly held in the name of DP Block are non-existent, and we urge all DP members to disassociate themselves from such groups,” he added.
