Former Makerere University lecturer in the school of law, Dr. Henry Michael Onoria has been appointed chairperson of the university staff tribunal.
According to the University Secretary Yusuf Kirunda, the Chancellor, Prof Ezra Suruma made the appointment on Friday last week.
Onoria replaces Justice Patrick Tabaaro who was suspended from office by the University Council on April 6 on grounds that the body did not constitute the required numbers because some members of the Tribunal had retired. Tabaaro’s term of office was remaining with about five weeks.
Kirunda said the appointment of Dr. Onoria starts effective August 31 for a period of four years.
It should be recalled that in May, the Chancellor issued out a letter to the university management in which he strongly condemned actions of the council to suspend justice Tabaaro noting that the council does not have powers to suspend a tribunal chairperson.
Parrots Media also learned that Prof Suruma has already sent the instrument of appointment of Dr. Onoria to the university management for implementation.
