At least eight people all passengers of the Fuso Fighter truck have been confirmed dead after the truck they were traveling on collided with Global Bus at Mile 17 along Isingiro – Mbarara road last evening
The accident happened last evening (September 8) at around 1910hrs when a motor vehicle registration no UBG 812 K Isuzu Bus belonging to Global company Orange in colour had a collision with a Fuso Fighter truck registration no UBL 945 Y transporting Scraps.
It’s alleged that the truck loaded with scrap with passengers on board from Isingiro towards Mbarara developed mechanical fault and seen Zig zaggering on slope forcing the on coming Bus from opposite direction to park aside for fear of head on collision.
In the process, the truck hit the bus at rear and both vehicles overturned killing eight people on the spot and injuring one.
ASP Ritah Kiyuba who inspected the accident identified the deceased as eight (8) male adults (names yet to confirm) both passengers on the truck. The casualty is also an unidentified male adult, a passenger on Global Bus.
Rwizi region police reported that bodies of the deceased were conveyed to Mbarara Rgional Referral Hospital for Post mortem and the Victim rushed to same hospital for treatment.
Police from Isingiro led by DPC Isingiro SP Liiga ,RTO Rwizi SP Ndhashime assisted by OC traffic Isingiro ASP kiyuba visited the scene of the accident and document it. A sketch plan was drawn and inquiries into the cause of accident are ongoing.
By press time, both vehicles were pending retrieval to police station.
