MITOOMA
Mitooma District has interdicted eight senior staff members for six months to pave the way for investigations into alleged corruption and accountability concerns.
The interdictions followed a stakeholders’ meeting held at the Mitooma District Council Hall on Saturday, August 8, during the visit of the Minister of Local Government, Balaam Barugahara.
According to a letter signed by the district Chief Administrative Officer, Maseraka Anms Asuman, the meeting focused on strengthening accountability, enhancing transparency in service delivery and fighting corruption in the district.
The affected officials include District Health Officer Dr. Sadic Byamugisha, District Education Officer, Peace Gloria Barungi and Senior Engineer/Acting District Engineer Eng. John Baptist Tumwebaze.
Others are Civil Engineer-Water Eng. Geofrey Tumusiime, Senior Environment Officer Godwin Kagumire, Senior Assistant Secretary Vicent Rugambwa, Driver Godfrey Mugumya and Medical Officer Dr. Patrick Oloya.
The letter states that the officials were interdicted with immediate effect to pave the way for investigations by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit and other relevant government agencies.
“The staff listed above have been interdicted for six months,” the letter reads, citing Section F-S (14) of the Uganda Public Service Standing Orders, 2021.
The interdiction means the officials are temporarily barred from exercising their official duties while the investigations proceed.
The district administration forwarded copies of the letter to the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Local Government, the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, the Resident District Commissioner for Mitooma and the district chairperson.
The document, however, does not disclose the specific allegations against each of the eight officials or indicate whether any of them has been formally charged with an offence.
The interdiction comes amid renewed government efforts to strengthen accountability and curb corruption in local government service delivery.
