Farmers reject OWC cassava plants

KWANIA:
Farmers in Kwania district Lango sub region have rejected cassave cuttings by the Operation Wealth Creation – OWC citing late delivery.

Kwania district production department 1,126 bags of cassava cuttings with with the financial support under the OWC at a tunne of UShs 35 millions.

The cassava cuttings were distributed to farmers in Akali, Inomo, Ayabi, Aduku and Nambieso. But, several farmers reportedly rejected the plants noting that the distribution was done past the planting season.They said government has supplied the plants lately yet the dry season is approaching.

Johnson Ojok Ocen, the Kwania district production cordinator argued that the suttings will do well despite the late deliveries. He said the distributed plant specie, NARO CAS 1 is drought resistant something that the farmers ardently rejected.
