Ankunda Best Arnold emerges the winner of 19th Bishop Stuart guild presidency following the strong support of Denmark who was once a guild president at the same campus. Bishop Stuart University students yesterday 10th June elected their 19th guild president in a hotly contested election that had nine candidates.
According to some of the students at BSU, they hope that Ankunda will restore the relationship between the university administration and the guild leadership in order for them to fully benefit from his leadership. The Guild presidential race attracted nine candidates: Ankunda Best Arnold who won with 458 votes, Nuwasiima Emmanuel who became the second with 181 votes, Atwijukire Fortunate coming in the third position with 175, Akoragye Seith followed with 140 votes, Mukasa Sande 116, Ariho Frank 89, Ayesigamuka Isaac 58 votes, Ainomugisha Brian 44votes and Mugaganga Nickson becoming the last with only 36 votes.
The elections were on Saturday marred by technical glitches like poor organization by the electoral commission where very many students failed to find their names in the voter register. Our reporter who talked to Patson one of the chief campaigners in Sande’s camp said they are not happy with the out- come because most of their supporters were not in the register and were denied the chance to vote.
Ankunda’s victory came as a result of great support from one time guild president Beinomugisha Denmark who was at BSU together with the MP for Buhweju Hon. Francis Mwijukye. The two did a great work in Ankunda’s camp having facilitated his campaigns from the start.
Ankunda Best Arnold is a bachelor’s student in the faculty of agriculture and will replace Adonia Singire the 18th guild president once sworn in.
Ankunda was declared the winner by Akandwanaho Dagalous the presiding officer together with Paul Aryamanya the chairperson electoral commission.
