A female police officer in Uganda risks suspension from the institution after a video of her doing street preaching in police uniform went viral on internet.
A police officer whose identity is yet to confirm is attached to Counter Terrorism Police. She was filmed on one of the city streets carrying out evangelization.
The officer is now in trouble after police accused her of absconding from lawful duties.
The acting Chief Political Commissariat Senior Commissioner of Police, Hadijah Namutebi says the officer had been fully deployed but she unlawfully withdrew from her duties and went to preach on streets something that is against the institutional conduct.
Street preaching is a common practice on the streets of Kampala particularly to the members of the pentecostal churches. Everyday, men, women and children clad in their casual and office wears, some with megaphones and others with public address speakers and hit different highways that connect to the city centre to preach the gospel.
Although many people are doing this without anyone’s interventions, preaching in security uniforms has not been a practice until the video of a CT-police officer went viral.
The former Kampala Capital City Resident City Commissioner Hudu Hussein is on record to have attempted to ban street preaching on all the streets of Kampala however, he failed on his attempts after christians and other people of good will criticized his move as against the freedom of worship.
Few months later, Hudu was transferred to the remote district of Yumbe in the West Nile as RDC which to critiques was a demotion to discipline him.
