Police in Kasangati is holding five people suspected to be thugs that give people sleepless nights in Kampala.
On March 7th, 2023, the Kasangati police was tipped about a group of armed thugs in Gayaza Trading Centre, Gayaza Ward, Kasangati Town Council, Wakiso District.
A team of officers conducted patrol and surveillance in the area, and at 22:30 hrs, the officers from Kasangati Police Station carried out an operation and arrested five suspects.
These suspects were identified as Kawoya Charles a male juvenile of 17years, Sekubuge Akram a male adult aged 23 years, Mwesigwa Enock a male adult aged 32 years, Sagara Denis a male adult aged 27years and Mwanja Ivan a male adult aged 31.
Nekesa Rachael, the female adult aged 29 and wife to Richard Mwesigye, the suspected commander, is still at large.
During this operation, the Kasangati police recovered eight sharpened pangas, six pit axes, five spanners, two motorcycles (UEF 094E Yamaha red in colour, UEK 221S Bajaj boxer red in colour, and a box containing nails. It was discovered that the criminals had planned to attack the Namugongo areas.
Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala metropolitan police spokesperson confirmed to our reporter that further investigations are ongoing, including a search of the suspects’ homes and efforts to trace those still at large.
Police urges the general public to be vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
